Trivia tidbit - The TV ad campaign puts forth the idea that "He's not a killer; he's just doing his job. The killer is you".

You really have to laugh. If this industry could find its head with both hands, it'd be a miracle.

The whole Hitman ad campaign has been really 1998 and stupid, given the climate. Good catch on that one Jon. I haven't seen the TV ad.

Agreed. I'm not happy at all with those ads in my magazines. I've had to keep recent issues away from the kids. Does anyone have recent issues of GamePro? Are they in there too?

The ad with the woman in the bathtub with the toaster? Yeah, I thought "NOW is going to have a field day" when I saw it.

I think that the catchphrase is 'Beautifully executed' ... so they get sexism and brutal murder in all at once ... and, yep, it was in the last GamePro (and EGM and CGM) I got.

It reminded me of the "Blood. You're soaking in it" ads for the original Blood game. It featured a bathtub full of, you guessed it!

When I saw what Jon posted, my first thought was the Postal 2 ad ... 'only as violent as you are', and claiming that the entire game can be played without killing a single person. I played some that way, but it really took the fun out of things.

Yeah, it was the tagline that put it over the top, I just couldn't remember what it was.

The 1998 comment was spot on. The industry is undergoing change, but some people apparently don't want to let go of the gentleman's club aspect.

What just struck me about the Hitman ads is that no one did get up in arms about them. Why?

My guess is because they're based on violence. If they had been ads depicting sex, LOOK OUT!

Well, when you're "protecting children" to get attention and votes... you can't be expected to be on top of things. Sort of like how Hot Coffee became a much bigger deal than God of War. One had a hidden sex game and the other one had it as part of the game itself. Nobody in Congress or the Senate knows anything about God of War though.

The ads were pretty suggestive in terms of sexuality, but I think what Andrew said about grabbing votes and missing the point is more likely the case.
