Very nice job Colleen ... as usual :)

A guy I work with - young, engaged, and entirely too sure of himself - was spouting off about how he was going to be in total control of everything his kids do ... instead of challenging that I just walked by and said 'as smart as you are, so too will you kids, and they will be more in tune with what is going on ... you will be constantly challenged more than you realized'. There was another parent wandering by who just nodded her head vigorously. Being tech-savvy isn't enough ...

Nope. And it never will be. Guess who helped me with assessing their advice about MySpace? And guess who taught me that search trick? My boys. ;)

I've told you guys about my Gestapo system for knowing what is going on with the kid's computer. There are still things that bite me.

It's all about connection. About having the relationship where you can talk to each other and where you aren't at each other's throats about this stuff. The ones that I really feel for are the parents of a fifteen-year-old who are just now finding this stuff out. It's a lot harder clamp down on this stuff after the fact rather than just not ever go there.

I think that many parents would be so much better off if they realized that it is largely the context rather than the content that has changed. It has *always* been about connection and communication - not that it will alleviate all problems, but it is better than just pretending that the new technology changes that equation.

I tackled MySpace last nite  and I linked it to my Blogger blog

I found another one I'm playing with called Cooeey-it's an Australian MySpace.

I was a minor celebrity at school last spring when I made a myspace page...

It helped me connect with quite a number of students that were more on the edge...
