I got this one. It's only $20 new btw. If it was just me I wouldn't have bought it. But my 5 yr old son liked the original arcade game when we played it on the pc and so I picked it up. I think he enjoys it because of the monsters, bashing building stuff and because the controls are simple enough for him to master on his own. So as long as you're ok with destroying buildings and eating people with monsters then I would recommend it. :) It's all pretty cartoonish. It's also a game where any non-playing gamers will have little trouble joining the fun.

I'm glad you and your son like it man.
To me there's just no excuse at all for that control scheme learning curve in 2006. When they updated it and added 3D (2 1/2 D really) they couldn't improve the collision detection? It could be a terrific pick up and play, but blows it by basically being a money grab.

But, if you like the original, I can see people having some fun with it. I think $20 is way too much though. They needed to add more than new monsters and a spit-shine, imo.

That's pretty well what I got from the review, and it reminded me of the BeyBlade game for the 'Cube we got my younger son. So long as the tops and the show were of interest, the game got play and we all would engage with it. But aside from that pull there was nothing, so the game hasn't seen any time in at least 18 months ...

Yeah I agree with ya on the money grab thing. Certainly I'm thinking that for myself it's a money grab. I definitely agree the controls weren't that well done. And yeah at $20 it's not something I really thought was a super value or anything, but it was only $20.

Anyway what I'm saying is I watched my mom and my wife playing it with my son and it occurred to me that I don't think it would have mattered to any of 'em if the controls were more polished. :) I mean think how much fun a 1 year old has playing with a cardboard box. It's not until they get more sophisticated that they care much about the fact they are only playing with an empty brown box. That's sort of where I'm coming from. And it occurs to me now that if we all went to see a movie it would have cost us (4 folks) $32-$40 for 2 hours.

I mean I wondered just how many games allow 3 people to play at the same time and are $20 new and super easy to play so a couple of non-gamers and my son can pick it up from the get go and play without difficulty? Pretty much none. It's also a cooperative game to boot.

It definitely could have been better, but I think that's mostly from a more sophisticated gamer point of view and I don't see alot of better options for getting a game that matches the above criteria. And so I recommend it.

I love that game. And it fits your criteria I think.

I hear you on this one, though. Sometimes a "bad" game can be more fun than a good one.

I have the new Rampage game. I didn't think it was too bad myself. Nice little 20 dollar diversion. --Cary

Ditto on the Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Game -- that saw quite a bit of action on our cube.

If you just want the classic Rampage, you can always pick up Midway Arcade Treasures 2. You get the original plus Rampart, Joust, 720 (Skateboarding), etc.

I think it listed at less than $20 too.

Hello there. I designed the game is question, and personally implemented the monsters, including designing the control scheme.

I'd love to know what, exactly you found clunky about the controls, and what exactly you mean by "poor collision detection." (I suspect you mean getting onto the side of a building by walking left or right.)

I will defend myself against the "money grab" proposition. I worked hard to secure the ability to remake one of my favorite classic games, and money was certainly not the driving concern there.

I'm not actually touchy about any of this, but since I'm trying to introduce myself around the forums, I can hardly pass up an opportunity like this.

Thank you! I was pretty happy with the way that one came out. I think you'll enjoy the game I'm working on now.

Godzilla was a pretty good game (even if some of the unlockables were only unlocked by having random save games... I dislike needing to own Game "B" just to get everything in Game "A"... games should stand alone, I think... I wouldn't mind too much if it were _easier_ but impossible seems a bit unfair...)

Maybe you have us switched with War of the Monsters. Everything in both Godzilla games was unlocked from within the game. War of the Monsters had a skin that was unlocked if you had a Twisted Metal save game on your memory card.
