I still fall in the 'dubious about card system' camp, but your reviews are very compelling. When my 'deck' is a bit more clear and th erental is available, I'll definitely give this a shot.

I've since read a few other reviews of the game, and I do wonder about IGN's in particular. They really seem to focus on the balance in multiplayer, something that no other review (including mine) touches on.

Mike, this is definitely a Metal Gear fan's game (as is the first), so it'd definitely be interesting to see how a complete outsider takes it. I don't just mean because of characters and back story, but that Metal Gear rewards gamers who set their own personal challenges. You can certainly blitz through any of the games shooting everything, at least on regular difficulty, but I just don't think you get much out of it. But when you really set yourself a goal of not being spotted, there is some real dramatic tension - even in a card game.

It is interesting to look at other sites after writing a review ... I just submitted the review for Keepsake and then looked around ... and GameSpot was all crabby about the game, like they were personally offended by having to play it. Others were more reasonable - but it is always enlightening to see some place that praises something you thought was the worst thing about the game ... or vice versa ...
