Excellent Kid Factor here Dave. You struck the right balance. Rest of the review was good too, of course. ;-)

Thanks man. That last line seemed like a bit of a cop out, but I think that's really where these WWII shooters tend to go. Parents will all approach them differently.

I didn't see it as a cop-out - compare it to my CoDKid Factor and you'll see that they really say similar stuff but finish it differently. It is clear that it isn't for your 6 year old, or even 10 year old, but as you get closer to teenage years it becomes more of a gray area. I just call it 14+ and quit, you provide a bit more context for informed decision making.

I've been talking to a lot of non-gamer people. Some parents, some not, and I've learned that some people are revolted at Halo being played by a 14 year old and some see no reason why 10 year olds can't play it. It's really that wide of gap. Lines like Dave's are a cop out, but Call of Duty 2 is exactly the kind of game where a cop out is worth using. To be honest, I'm not sure WHAT I'll do with my kids when they get to be teens. Will they play shooters or not? My wife defers to me on this but I know she finds, even Halo, pretty shocking.

It's just not as cut and dried as a real M-Rated game in the minds of parents.

I still don't see it as a cop out - I would call it that if he just said 'it's violent, but they're your kids...'. But he provides information and context and some guidance, but leaves teh ultimate decision to them.

In a way it is no different than recommending an E game for 10+, but conditioning that on the reading and maturity of the kid - it is all about knowing the kids and making informed decisions.

It can never be a cop out because you're not talking about your own kids. Those of you with just young children now will find the lines blur before your very eyes as they get older.

I've said it before, but with Sam, it's always been about context. In this case, the game wouldn't be played - we don't play "realistic" war games because I don't like glorifying war. But we'll play Metal Gear games. We play Dead or Alive, but I put a stop to modern wrestling games - they both have a high jiggle factor, but I don't really like how women are portrayed in wrestling.
