Note. I'm changing the age seal to 14+ because in the Kid Factor Colleen says she'd only go as low as 10 with parental supervision. The Age Seal should be an "at a glance" rating, not an "ideal if you" rating.

That works for me. I wasn't sure how to cut that, and I'll remember that for this next one. It was about to bite us in the you-guessed-it again. ;)

I was going to ask the question when Andrew made his post - when I read the review this morning (whew that is long  ), the thing that stuck out was "This one is T-rated, and I'd definitely stick with that. I'd probably go as young as 10 if you're going to play along, but no younger than 13 on their own.", which didn't seem to match a 10+.

I know. I didn't know if we went with the "with parents" age, or the without. Going with the without from here on out.

It's not an exact science, I know. I'm very frustrating that way. I feel for you and I only made the post to notify you guys, not as a rebuke.

I figure a lot of people just look at the age seal and feel they've done a good job as a parent. I'm learning from the lay people I know that reading isn't as fundamental as I'd hoped.

Ha! No kidding! You know how hard it is to get even my own mother to do more than glance at what I write for the magazines?! She sees GamerDad only when I forcibly put it in front of her!

It's really frustrating. :(

I hear you on the reading thing. Trusim of usability - they don't read, they don't scroll, and they only click on stuff that doesn't get them anywhere useful. ;)

This one was a challenge. I've rarely run through a game that was so maybe-colored. Most of the time it's a lot more cut and dried.

Yeah, I hear you. Similar boat, but they're coming around. The PBS thing really seemed to knock them out. I'm sure rock journalists in the 50's felt much the same way. We're pioneers, the respect comes later. I mean, it's only a $10billion industry, right?

The problem is that it's hard enough for that generation to understand why people who aren't kids play games - much less read or write about them. Also, the old Puritan concept that an adult is supposed to put away all childish things by their early 20's is still ingrained. Gen X is a LOT more fun, which is why our King Kong is far less sucky than their 1970's version. ;-)

We should cut our folks some slack though Dave. They were raised by the generation that survived the Depression. Talk about a head trip.
